![]() ![]() Gameplay is very basic and fine tuned in terms of difficulty for a player who never loses soldiers or missions Soldiers are extremely important and losing elites basically loses you the game when you fail to keep up with the difficulty curve. It's also far more difficult than XCOM UFO defense with a difficulty progression that more closely mirrors XCOM 2012Īliens progress gradually with new races and ships appearing each month, pushing players to continuously advance. Graphically it looks much better and the UI is much smoother and more intuitive. Xenonauts continues the tradition of XCOM UFO defense and TFTD with a similiar style. XCOM UFO defense was easier since there is much more margin for error, but there's also a higher learning curve. ![]() XCOM 2012 and XCOM 2 are very different games from the originals, and also much harder. If you liked the rebooted XCOM games but think they felt very constricted or if you liked UFO Defense but feel that it aged very poorly, you'll find something to enjoy from Xenonauts. But if you prefer a proper story that doesn't make you fill in the blanks, you'll probably find it very unengaging. If you're fond of minimalism like that you'll appreciate it. It gives you an objective (mainly interrogating your way up the alien's chain of command) and leaves you to it. In Xenonauts, it's all text and outside some in-game codex files you get from learning more about the aliens, there's not much story to tell. EU/EW and XCOM 2 have structured narratives with cutscenes and voice acting. Soldiers also have several stats which are raised independantly depending on what they did on missions. XENONAUTS 2 REVIEW FULLXenonauts has much more depth than Enemy Unknown and certain elements of XCOM 2.įor example, Xenonauts has no class system or levels and allows you much more control over how each soldier is outfitted, such as a rocketeer who has a big belt full of RPG's at the ready, a handgun with one magazine, and some medical kits and/or smoke grenades in his backpack for support. It doesn't carry too much in common with the rebooted XCOMs outside fundamental features like turn-based strategy and progressive research. It's a spiritual successor to the older UFO Defense XCOM game. I know you a bit lampros, you are a xenonaut guy. The fact that i dare say LW1 is superior doesn t mean that it is, it just means that it's different enough from vanilla for some solid players to consider it's worth it, because well, you at least don t play superheroes in LW(errmh not at start anyways, it comes way later) Xcom tends to make you think you play a bunch of superheroes, xeno only gives you human soldiers.ģ-EW, EU, Xcom2, all tied because well, you don't need to play them, if you play 1 or 2. ![]() I like my xeno, but i have to say it somewhat is a bit rigid and cold, it's no perfect at all, i have no nostalgia glasses and can judge for what it is: a nice game good enough to be an alternative, good enough to closely watch for the sequel. Xeno is not shiny but more adult, friendly fire is a thing for example XENONAUTS 2 REVIEW MODNew xcoms are for children, not that they are bad games but they play differently.įrom having played the crap out of longwar mod for xcom1, i can t agree when i hear it's easy on ironman impossible, i do find some of the mood is there, you can lose soldiers, you can get owned and there is challenge. ![]()
